Health Notice – Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

Dear Epping North OSHCP Families,

Please be aware that there have been multiple cases of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) reported to the Centre over the past 2 weeks.

We ask that parents please familiarise themselves with the signs and symptoms of Whooping Cough and visit their local GP if they have any concerns. If you have a child under 5 years or you are currently pregnant please take particular notice.

We would like to remind families that the Centre must be notified should your child contract Whooping Cough or any other infectious disease.

As per Centre policy, children who have contracted an infectious disease will be excluded from care during the infectious period. In addition, children who do not have up to date vaccinations against the infectious disease may also be excluded from care to ensure their health and safety.

Exclusion periods for Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
Children will be allowed to return to the service once the Centre has received a doctors clearance letter and after:
– 5 days if the child has completed a 5 day course of antibiotics or
– 21 days, the full course of the contagious period, for children who do not follow a medication treatment plan.

For information please read the Staying Healthy in Child Care[Download not found]

Kind regards,
Epping North OSHCP
